      State Hospital / Hospital

      For over 125 years, the State Hospital Liechtenstein has been providing basic medical care to the population.

      A new building is currently being planned. From 2025, patients will be received there.

      Office of Health (AG)

      The Office of Health is responsible for the entire population of Liechtenstein. Here you will find all the information about the healthcare system in Liechtenstein (insurance, hospitals, preventive care and health promotion, vaccinations, medicinal products, diseases and risks, health professions, etc.).

      The Office of Health offers an alternative platform called "Alles Wurscht?" as an idea provider for healthy meals at events.

      Intercultural Interpreting for Medical Practices

      Medical practices can order intercultural interpreters from the Eastern Swiss Vermittlungsorganisation Arge Verdi. They translate in about 70 languages. The costs for the assignments are covered by the Office of Health. Intercultural interpreters can assist with linguistic and cultural understanding and create understanding.

        Health Insurances

        All individuals living or working in Liechtenstein have access to mandatory health insurance. Mandatory means compulsory.

        As a result, all individuals have access to medical care. In case of illness or accident, benefits in kind and cash are available.

        Children and adolescents up to 16 years do not have to pay for mandatory health insurance.

        The costs for the health insurance must be paid monthly. For employed individuals, the employer covers half of the health insurance costs.

        One can choose from the following health insurances:

        Premium Reduction

        Individuals with lower earnings are entitled to financial assistance with health insurance costs. This is called premium reduction.

        You can inquire at the Office of Social Services whether you are eligible for premium reduction.

        Applications for premium reduction can be sent to the Office of Social Services until

        October 31.

          Prevention and Vaccinations

          The preventive examination is a free, voluntary offer for children and adults. It aims to detect diseases as early as possible.

          All persons living in Liechtenstein with a residence permit B, C or D receive an invitation for the preventive examination.

          Vaccinations

          You can receive a vaccination from a doctor. It provides good protection against various diseases.

          Children are usually vaccinated for the first time at the age of 2 months. The pediatrician follows the Swiss vaccination schedule.

          By getting vaccinated, you protect yourself from illness and take responsibility for society.

          Sexual Health

          Sexual Harassment

          Sexual harassment is described as when the gender of the victim is central.

          This can vary widely and can range from derogatory remarks to comments about appearance to physical assaults.

          The Office of Social Services has published a guide on the topic of sexual harassment in the workplace.

          Affected individuals should be encouraged to make their boundaries clear and to defend themselves. Employees are asked to help and support.

          Employers are required by the Equal Opportunity Act to ensure a harassment-free work environment.

            Female Genital Mutilation - Counseling Center

            Contact point against female genital mutilation in Eastern Switzerland and Liechtenstein. A project by committed affected individuals together with specialists from Eastern Switzerland.

            Drugs and Addiction

            If you have questions regarding addiction, you can contact Addiction Prevention Liechtenstein. Some services can be utilized anonymously and free of charge.

            In Eschen, Schaan, Triesen, Triesenberg and Vaduz, the Liechtenstein Care and Nursing (LAK) offers care and support facilities.

            Meal Service

            The meal service is aimed at people who are unable to prepare their meals independently for a prolonged period or for a specific time. Information and registrations can be found on the homepage of Family Assistance Liechtenstein and Life Assistance Balzers.

            Financial Support for Care

            Compensation for Inability to Care

            Individuals who live in Liechtenstein or have mandatory health insurance in Liechtenstein are entitled to compensation for inability to care. However, this only applies if they are helpless and do not have a right to similar benefits from the mandatory accident insurance or a comparable performance from a foreign social security system.

            Care Allowance

            Individuals living in Liechtenstein are entitled to care and support allowances. They have this entitlement if they require care and assistance due to health-related needs (expected to last longer than 3 months) or if they need help from others with daily activities. The care allowance is earmarked. It is only meant as compensation for helpers (persons or institutions).
